There’s no doubt about it that we were absolutely blown away by Tasmania and all its unique beauty.
Tasmania is an island off the south coast of Australia and is Australia’s smallest state. What it lacks in size, it makes up for with some of the most diverse and amazing landscapes we’ve ever seen.
From clear blue waters and white sandy beaches, dramatic mountain landscapes and lush national parks, to some of the most unique accommodations we’ve ever stayed in, these are the most beautiful places in Tasmania and the top 10 Tasmania Instagram spots to add to your bucket list.
Captains Rest Airbnb Cabin
We are kicking off this list with an absolute must-stay Tasmania Airbnb in Strahan, on the east coast. Captains Rest is a quaint, antique wood cabin, located right on the water’s edge, with its own jetty and family of ducks!
Staying here felt so peaceful and magical - looking out of the huge glass windows across the water, getting cozy by the log fire, enjoying coffee on the deck in the morning or soaking in the roll-top bath.
Every detail here is perfect, and there are endless photography and Instagram opportunities both inside the cabin and outside. Captains Rest is an amazing setting for your photos in sunshine or moody weather, with the bonus that you can curl up inside afterwards and just enjoy the view.
Cradle Mountain - Dove Lake Boatshed and Hanson’s Peak
If you’re looking for iconic Tasmania photography locations, it doesn’t get more epic than Cradle Mountain in the Lake St Clair National Park.
Dove Lake offers views of the Cradle Mountain peak but to add interest and more depth to your photos, head to the Dove Lake Boatshed at sunrise. Golden hour with the clouds rolling over the mountain peaks is the perfect recipe for epic Tasmania Instagram shots.
Another stunning photo location is the nearby Hanson’s Peak, which can be accessed on a one hour hike from Dove Lake car park. Do this hike at sunrise or sunset for beautiful light across the peak and amazing views of the mountain and lake below.
Eagles Nest Retreat
We were treated to unique Tasmania Airbnbs and accommodations on this trip, and Eagles Nest Retreat was unreal!
This luxurious retreat has three lodges to choose from. All come with huge windows offering you panoramic views of Mount Roland, and the secluded, cozy vibes here are perfect for a romantic getaway

Bridestowe Lavender Fields
Time your trip to Tasmania right and you’ll get this opportunity to capture the Bridestowe lavender fields for your Tasmania photos.
The lavender fields here are huge and surrounded by mountains, but they only bloom in the summer months. The best time to visit the lavender in Tasmania is in December and January.
The rows of lavender are perfect to create leading lines in your photography and to add a vibrant splash of colour for your Instagram feed. Make sure to try their lavender ice cream too. Try to get a shot of it before it melts!
Photography tip: Ask prior to your visit if you can stay after hours to capture golden hour over the purple fields.
Bay of Fires - Suicide Beach and Binalong Bay
There are many well-known Tasmania sights to visit, but the Bay of Fires is absolutely one of the most beautiful places in Tasmania and a must-visit for Tasmania photography locations.
We’ve never seen anything like it before. With fiery orange rocks alongside crystal clear blue water, the contrast is just unreal and makes for some very Instagrammable photos!
If you’re searching for a more secluded spot to get your shots, head to the small bay to the right of Suicide Beach in the Bay of Fires area. Here you’ll find an unspoiled beach, the signature fiery rocks and plenty of photography opportunities.
Further south along the coast you’ll reach Binalong Bay. This is where we saw the most spectacular sunrise and sunset on our trip. The long white sandy beach here is beautiful. Head up to the rocks at the south end of the beach for an amazing view and an amazing photography vantage point of the bay as the sun sets.
Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay
This is one of the best spots in Tasmania, and it’s easy to see why. Freycinet National Park is a nature lover’s paradise with some of the best beaches Tasmania has to offer. Plus, the mountainous peninsula is perfect for hiking, swimming and Tasmania photography of course!
Freycinet is one of the most beautiful places in Tasmania so we decided to take a scenic flight over the peninsula, and it was absolutely insane! If you’re looking for a unique perspective for your Tasmania photography, I absolutely recommend a scenic flight over the National Park to take in the views of the stunning Wineglass Bay, Freycinet and Mount Amos.
For more of the best views in Tasmania, hike to Mount Amos for epic panoramic views of Freycinet National Park and Coles Bay. It’s steep and takes around 3 hours but the views are totally worth it.
Bruny Island
Bruny Island is an easy day trip from Hobart and accessed by a narrow strip of land connected to the main island. On your way to the island along the connecting road, stop at the Neck Lookout where you can walk up to the lookout and get some great Instagrammable shots of the peninsula with the sea on either side.
We loved the amazing rock formations on Bruny Island. Blighs Rocks and the Arch can be found on the secluded beach at Bruny Island Neck Game Reserve. You can access it via the Cape Queen Elizabeth Track and the beach is so beautiful!
Hobart
You can’t visit Tasmania and not spend some time exploring the cute town of Hobart. It has to have a place on our list of the top 10 places to visit in Tasmania with its colourful buildings and historic houses. Plus, the cafes are so good there!
We loved the vibes in the Salamanca area, Battery Point and North Hobart where we visited so many cute cafes like the Born in Brunswick. If you’re a food blogger, photographer or brunch lover, there are so many amazing cafes you need to visit in Hobart!
The Battery Point area is also where you’ll find the city’s historic houses and the outdoor sculpture trail, full of history and architecture built by convicts in the 1800s.
Mount Wellington, Hobart
Mount Wellington is one of the top sights in Tasmania and the best part is how easy it is to get there! You don’t need to hike up; instead, you can drive up and park at the top then enjoy the boardwalk and panoramic views over the city and beyond.
Mount Wellington is another one of the amazing Instagram spots in Hobart and we loved the sunrise and sunset views from up there.
Richmond Bridge
Richmond Bridge might be a lesser-known Instagram place but we definitely recommend adding it to your list when you’re planning what to see in Tasmania.
This sandstone bridge was built by convicts in 1825, and we don’t see many bridges like this in Australia. Its picturesque location over the Coal River makes it a great spot to get some photos.
Head down to the river bank to get close to the bridge or you can try what we did and get some epic drone footage of it from above.
